What’s next for Iga Swiatek after French Open heartbreak? All you need to know about the Pole’s schedule until Wimbledon

Iga Swiatek’s quest for a record fourth consecutive title at the French Open 2025 came to an end at the hand of World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. She appeared on track for a comeback after conceding the first set but her resistance crumbled in the decider, losing 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0.

The loss brought an end to Swiatek’s 26-match winning streak in Paris. With the clay season in the rearview mirror, she will now turn her attention to grass, her weakest surface in terms of results. While most of the tour will be in action either this week or the next, the Pole will play her first match on grass after a fortnight.

Swiatek will commence her time on grass at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany, a WTA 500 tournament. It will take place from June 23-29. It is one of the final two warm-up events in the lead-up to Wimbledon. This will be her second appearance at the tournament.

Swiatek previously competed at the Bad Homburg Open in 2023 and advanced to the semifinals. She withdrew prior to her match against Lucia Bronzetti due to an illness. She didn't contest any tournaments on grass prior to Wimbledon last year, which was understandable given her intense clay swing.

The Pole won titles in Madrid and Rome before defending her French Open crown a year ago. While opting to rest was the right choice, she arrived at Wimbledon without any matches under her belt on grass and lost in the third round. She will aim to post a better result this time at the All England Club.

The Bad Homburg Open 2025 will not only be Iga Swiatek's first tournament on grass this year but also mark the start of a new era for her. Despite posting some solid results over the past 52 weeks, she hasn't won a title or even reached a final. The French Open 2024 marked the last time she laid her hands on the winner's trophy.

Since she failed to defend her title at the clay court Major this year, Swiatek also dropped to No. 7 in the latest WTA rankings. She's ranked outside the top five for the first time since February 2022. She will now aim to reclaim her position at the top of the women's game once again.

A good showing during the grass swing will certainly boost Swiatek's confidence for the remainder of the season. She has a 15-7 career record on grass, compared to her 100-15 record on clay and 184-50 record on hardcourts. A title or even a final on her weakest surface could re-affirm her self-belief and give her a much-needed push to contend for big titles once again.
