Sabalenka’s quest to win her maiden French Open title came to an end on June 6, as she fell short of dominating Gauff despite having a strong start. Commencing the clash with a 7-6(7) lead, the Belarusian couldn’t continue the momentum in the next two rounds, and the American claimed an impressive 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-4 victory and earned her Grand Slam title.

This match was a terrific showdown of two hours and 38 minutes, where both players tried to deliver a head-to-head competition. After losing the title, Sabalenka couldn’t control her emotions and broke down in tears during the trophy ceremony.

"No, no. I already have a flight booked to Mykonos. Alcohol. Sugar. I just need a couple days to completely forget about this crazy world and crazy… if I could swear right now I would.. this crazy thing that happened today. I think everyone understands. I’m just trying to be very polite right now," said Aryna Sabalenka.

"There is no other word that could describe what just happened today on the court. But yeah… Tequila. Gummy bears. And I don’t know, swimming. Being like a tourist for a couple days."

Sabalenka congratulated Gauff for the win and also apologized to her team for her performance in the finals, promising them a comeback in the speech while receiving her runner-up trophy.
