Did Mavericks accidentally reveal Cooper Flagg as No. 1 pick on official website? Looking at franchise’s pre-draft blunder

The Dallas Mavericks have made their intentions pretty clear about selecting Cooper Flagg as their No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft. However, the excitement seems to have taken over the Mavs organization as they made a pre-draft blunder on their website.

The Dallas team has shown no interest in working out any top prospects other than Flagg after landing the #1 pick for this year’s draft. But they made the mistake of making their decision official days before the draft.

“The Mavs have seemingly announced their selection of Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick on their website. The draft is in 12 days,” Front Office Sports reported after Dallas reporter Kevin Gray Jr. revealed the blunder.

Gray also provided a screengrab of the website, which had a picture of Flagg in Mavs uniform. The caption read:

"With the 1st pick the Dallas Mavericks select Cooper Flagg. Welcome to Dallas."

However, the Mavericks perhaps realized the blunder very soon. The post was quickly deleted from the website.

Flagg has been largely hailed as the best player in the draft and has almost unanimously been touted as the No. 1 pick. The Mavericks' excitement about the draft lottery is understandable, especially after the baclash they received from the tragic Luka Doncic trade.

The arrival of Cooper Flagg and his tandem with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving might just win over the fanbase once again.

"The Athletic" has hailed the Duke Devils star as the "most ready to play" player in the 2026 rookie class. He can handle the ball, defend at multiple positions and is a storehouse of athleticism.

Moreover, the addition of another 6ft-8-in forward will give the Mavericks an overwhelming edge with the number of talented bigs on the roster. Derek Lively II, Daniel Gafford, AD and P.J. Washington are all high-level defenders. Perhaps, Nico Harrison can now sit back and enjoy the upcoming show next season without fans chanting against him.

Mavericks reportedly invited Cooper Flagg for private work out before the NBA draft

ESPN Insider Shams Charania reported that the Dallas Mavericks fixed a private visit for Cooper Flagg a week ahead of the NBA draft. According to Charania, the team has scheduled the visit for the potential No. 1 pick on June 17.

The report also said that Dallas was focused on Flagg and wasn't entertaining the idea of working out any of the other draft prospects.

Flagg led the Duke Blue Devils to a Final Four appearance this year. In his freshman year, he averaged 19.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 4.2 apg, showcasing his talent on both ends of the floor. He also won the Julius Erving Award, the ACC Player of the Year award and the Wooden Award.
