Coco Gauff’s close friend Jalen Sera shares his delight as American conquers French Open title

Coco Gauff’s friend Jalen Sera joined in to celebrate as the American lifted the second Grand Slam title of her career at the French Open. The tennis star ousted Aryna Sabalenka in 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 to clinch her maiden title at the tournament.

Channeling a fighter’s attitude right from the start of the match, Gauff put up a great fight but succumbed to Sabalenka’s masterclass in the first set. However, due to changed conditions, she started playing dominant forehands and gave powerful returns to Sabalenka’s serves. The world No. 1 gradually started getting agitated as the match progressed and lost control, which allowed the second seed to capitalise on her mistakes.

Sera, who is reportedly a close friend of the Roland Garros champion, shared an image from Gauff’s win on his Instagram stories that announced her as the ‘New queen of Paris’, accompanied by a celebratory message.

"Oui oui, oui oui," he wrote, which translates to 'yes' in French.

He also added a song named 'St. Chroma' by the artist Tyler, the Creator, whom Gauff also mentioned in her speech during the trophy ceremony.

She has been a long-time fan of the artist and has shared his songs multiple times on her Instagram stories. She quoted an inspiring line from the singer's latest album, ‘Chromakopia', from the song ‘St. Chroma' and concluded her speech.

“I didn’t think honestly that I could do it. But I’m gonna quote Tyler, The Creator right here. He said, ‘If I ever told you I had a doubt inside me, I must be lying.’ I’d like to leave that with you guys. I think I was lying to myself and I definitely could do it. Shout out to Tyler,” she said.

She played some top-quality tennis throughout the tournament, squaring off against players like Madison Keys, and had struggled for a breakthrough since her 2023 US Open title win. Her clinical performance in the French Open is expected to hold her in good stead for Wimbledon, which gets underway in less than a month.
