Andy Roddick explains why Aryna Sabalenka is the ‘clear-cut favorite’ for Wimbledon 2025, snubs Coco Gauff for Elena Rybakina

Sabalenka was last seen in action on Saturday, June 7, on Philippe-Chatrier court, at the French Open 2025 final. She was up against Gauff, who lost the first set, but picked up her momentum to clinch an impressive victory at Roland Garros.

Although Gauff showcased dominance at the French Open, Roddick claimed that Sabalenka is the favorite for Wimbledon 2025, which is scheduled from June 30 to July 13. He recently sat for a conversation with the American journalist Jon Wertheim, where he revealed the reason behind vouching for the Belarusian as the favorite for the grasscourt major.

"She's absolutely the favorite at Wimbledon. I'm just telling you that a lot goes right for Coco as soon as she steps on a clay court. Listen, she's amazing, but that doesn't mean that her spaces where she needs to work change immediately. Rybakina is going to be on the short list, and Maddie is going to be on the short list. Sabalenka is the clear-cut favorite," said Andy Roddick (8:45 onward).

"I don't put a lot of stock into a match, you know, besides like is there going to be a hangover from losing two slam finals in a row and does that affect the psyche? Absolutely. There is not a person to be bet on more confidently than Sabalenka at Wimbledon," he added.

Coco Gauff beat Aryna Sabalenka 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-4 in the French Open final to claim his second Grand Slam title. The American beat the Belarusian in the 2023 US Open final to win her first Major title.

Shortly after Djokovic's heartbreaking loss, Andy Roddick made a prediction about the Serb's chances to win the Wimbledon title in one of his recent podcast episodes. Praising the 38-year-old's skill on the grasscourt, Roddick said: (9:40 onwards):

"I'm going to say this right now: Novak can win Wimbledon. I'm just going to tell you.... Nothing he does at 38 becomes easier when he steps onto a clay court... Everything he does well at 38 gets better when he steps onto a grass court... I would suspect that he walks into Wimbledon saying, "This is my best shot to win a Major. And I fully believe that."
