Jalen Brunson was shocked at Luka Doncic's $165 million extension with the Lakers

Earlier this month, Luka Doncic signed a $165 million max extension with the LA Lakers. This move cemented Doncic as the purple and gold's face for the next three years.

However, Jalen Brunson was left shocked by the amount Doncic received in his extension. The Knicks star voiced his opinion on the subject in Friday's episode of the "Roommates Show."

"When I saw it, I was like, ‘Damn, is that the most he could have got?' It seemed low, but then I realized he got traded and I don’t think he could get the max or whatever," Brunson said. (23:43)

Josh Hart, Brunson's teammate and co-host on the podcast, jumped in the conversation to clear Brunson's confusion. He explained that Luka Doncic was eligible to get a $317 million five-year contract if the Mavs had not traded him.

However, since Dallas traded him away, the now-Lakers star was only eligible for a four-year, $220 million contract or less. Doncic is currently playing for Slovenia in the FIBA EuroBasket tournament and is expected to return in time for the Lakers' pre-season camp.
