It looks like the San Antonio Spurs plan on pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jaylen Brown if a trade for Kevin Durant doesn’t come to fruition. San Antonio is now in its building phase as it aims to provide the best team to help elevate Victor Wembanyama’s career.
Heading into the 2025 NBA draft, the Spurs have the No. 2 pick. It’s a valuable trade asset that they could use to trade for Durant. However, sources report that San Antonio has no intentions of letting go of their draft pick and is expected to bring in Dylan Harper in the upcoming draft.
Despite Kevin Durant’s interest in playing in San Antonio, the Phoenix Suns are less likely to make a deal with a team that can’t offer them draft picks in return. The Suns are currently in their rebuilding phase and are looking to get younger talent.
NBA insider Brett Siegel reported that San Antonio will keep a close eye on Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo and Boston Celtics' Jaylen Brown if they can't cut out a deal with Phoenix.

Antetokounmpo isn't officially available in the trade market but expressed openness to the idea. As for Brown, the Celtics are reportedly rebuilding as well and could trade their former Finals MVP for starters.
Kevin Durant no longer likely to play for Spurs
Kevin Durant has been on everyone's radar since entering the offseason. This is due to the Phoenix Suns openly expressing their intentions to trade the two-time NBA champion. While Durant made his feelings clear about wanting to play for the San Antonio Spurs, it looks like the Suns have different ideas.
There were rumors in the past few weeks that "KD" has already been traded to the Spurs. It seemed like a huge possibility, especially considering his interest in playing for San Antonio. However, it's clear that the rumors were false and NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Phoenix is talking to other teams.
According to Charania, the Suns are currently looking at the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves as Kevin Durant's next destination. Fortunately for Durant, the Heat and Rockets are among his list of teams he wants to play for next season.
While "KD" playing alongside Wembenyama for the Spurs seems like a blur for now, all fans can do is wait on what the Suns decide to do.
