Coco Gauff’s brother Codey was strangely absent from American’s post French Open celebrations: Here’s why

French Open champion Coco Gauff’s supportive family was visible during her triumph in Paris, with one notable exception. Younger brother Codey was nowhere to be seen during the post-match celebrations after his illustrious sister picked up her second Major title following an enthralling three-set final against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

The Gauff family is well known on the WTA circuit. Father Corey was his daughter’s coach until early 2024, and her mother, Candi, is a regular in the Americans’ support team in the player’s box at the big events. In the clutch moments of the final at Roland Garros, Candi could be seen wringing her hands and muttering prayers as she tried to help her daughter cross the finish line.

Coco’s younger brother Cameron, who is 12, was also in France to watch his sibling’s victory. Coco and Cameron’s relationship was celebrated by the Sportscenternext Instagram account, which showed an image of the duo accompanied by the caption:

"I really can't get over Cameron clapping for his sister like he just met her today!"

In response, father Corey Gauff slid into the comments section to provide an update on his son Codey's whereabouts, stating:

"My son playing baseball in Carolina trying to get drafted as a catcher. He had his whole team watching...no bigger supporter."

Corey and Candi's three children have grown up in a sporting environment. Candi was a high-level athlete in her day, and Cameron has shown potential as a football and tennis player, like his older sister. Meanwhile, Codey is fast developing into a baseball star.

Born on Sept. 21, 2007, Codey Gauff is the middle child of the family. From a young age, he showed promise as an athlete and turned to baseball in high school, where he played for the Elite Squad Academy, where he combined homeschooling with competitive sports.

Last October, Codey announced that he would continue his baseball education at Mizzou University, starting at the end of 2025. Corey's Instagram post suggested that his son was progressing well towards a pro baseball career. Back in 2023, after her US Open win, Coco revealed how important her brothers were to her success, as reported by People:

“Both my brothers were the first two people I called. They didn’t answer.” Finally, my brother called me back, but by then the ceremony had started. He was like, ‘I was running around the house and I didn’t hear my phone ring.’ ”

Now a two-time Major champion, Coco Gauff will look forward to the grass court season with relish. She reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2019, 2021, and 2024, and strongly believed that she could go even further this year.
