Taylor Townsend seeks comfort from son Adyn & her grandmother to heal herself after French Open heartbreak

Taylor Townsend has put her French Open disappointment behind her by reconnecting with her family. The American doubles specialist is ranked No. 2 in the WTA’s doubles rankings, while her playing partner, Katerina Siniakova, is ranked No. 1. The pair were seeded one in Paris, but came unstuck in the quarterfinal when they were beaten by Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic.

Townsend was more successful in the mixed doubles, reaching the final with Evan King. Seeded four, they lost to third seeds Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, 4-6, 2-6. Before leaving home to compete in France, Townsend had spoken at length about the wrench of leaving behind her four-year-old son Adyn Aubrey, with whom she has now been reunited.

Townsend used her Instagram stories to post images of Adyn Aubrey wielding a fishing rod, and also an image of her grandmother, whom she often speaks about as a major influence in her career. Townsend captioned the picture of her son:

She followed that with a shot of her grandma, and paid tribute to her with the words:

The Townsend-Siniakova pairing is rightly seen as the best women's doubles team in the world. They have had an excellent 2025 season so far. They reached the Semifinals in Miami and Indian Wells, and won the titles in Dubai and at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year

Townsend suffered a mild concussion in Miami in March and was forced to sit out for a few weeks. She spent the time looking after her son, so that when she rejoined the WTA tour, the separation was even more difficult. The American posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to Adyn before leaving, writing:

"ADYN, I am so proud of you. These last two months with you has been so fullfiling and incredible. Always remember… No matter how faraway I am, I am Always with you! I love you to the moon, Stars, and above Love, Mommy."

Townsend has also paid tribute to her Grandma before on Instagram, indicating that she has always been supportive of her tennis journey:

“She’s in charge of our family group text, so she texts everyone in my family, my scores, if I lose or win, usually when I win, so it’s okay. This is her first time watching me play live, it’s super special for me.”

Townsend and Siniakova now move on to the grass court season. They are the defending champions at the All-England club, having beaten Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, 7-6(5), 7-6(1) in last year's final.
