Coco Gauff receives bleak Wimbledon 2025 prediction from Laura Robson

Coco Gauff’s Wimbledon chances were assessed by Laura Robson, who weighed in on the women’s singles title race. While Robson acknowledged Gauff’s consistent showings at the All England Club, she expressed doubts about the American making a big run this year.

Robson is the tournament director of one of the first grass court events of the season, the Queen’s Club Championships or the HSBC Championships. She spoke about the potential women’s singles title race at Wimbledon from her office at the new WTA 500 event.

“I don’t know who is favorite in the women’s Wimbledon event. I would probably say [Aryna] Sabalenka because she’s done well there in the past, but for Coco [Gauff] it’s been a surface which hasn’t quite given her the results that the other Slams have,” Robson said (via Sky Sport).

Further, the former British star detailed how the American has reached the second week of the event consistently, but there have been no impactful performances.

"Even though Gauff has made the fourth round three times, there's not been that standout result, I'd say, so I think that leaves it quite open for some new faces to come in," she added.

Coco Gauff is fresh off a Grand Slam title in Paris. Her commendable consistency on clay saw her finish runner-up at the Madrid Open and the Italian Open before bagging the French Open title. The World No. 2 will now move on to the grass court as Wimbledon looms large.

Coco Gauff has compiled a solid career grass-court record of 21-10 (68% win rate), although she hasn’t captured a grass-court title yet (0–10). Despite this, her consistency has been noteworthy, with three fourth-round Wimbledon appearances (2019, 2021, 2024).

She enters the 2025 grass court season needing to defend 195 points from Berlin and 240 points at Wimbledon. Currently, she is in a race against Aryna Sabalenka for the top rank. The 27-year-old Belarusian is ranked No. 1 with a total of 11,553 points in her name, while the American is behind her with 8,083 points.

The Grasscourt Slam, in particular, has seen its share of surprise winners recently, with champions emerging from outside the top ranks. If Gauff can convert her consistent showing into that elusive deep run, she could break through on the big stage.
