Kevin Durant Sweepstakes: San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets headline host of teams on shortlist provided by agent Rich Kleiman

As the 2025 offseason approaches, the buzz surrounding Kevin Durant’s next destination grows louder by the day. Now, an NBA insider has released a shortlist of teams that could possibly acquire the Phoenix Suns forward in the coming weeks.

On Wednesday, Shams Charania tweeted about five teams that are reportedly eyeing the acquisition of Durant via a trade in the near future.

“ESPN reporting: The Phoenix Suns and Kevin Durant’s business partner, Rich Kleiman, are sorting through trade options – with interested teams mainly featuring Houston, San Antonio, Minnesota, Miami and New York,” Charania tweeted.

In an ESPN article published on the same day, Charania added that there are several other teams who are said to have reached out to the Phoenix organization "in the past seven to 10 days." Meanwhile, Durant and Kleiman have reportedly met "multiple times over the past week" in order to go through the various trade scenarios.

Around the time of the February trade deadline, a deal sending Durant to his former team Golden State Warriors was said to have come close to fruition. Durant, who won two NBA titles alongside Steph Curry in the late 2010s, allegedly turned down this prospect.

The five teams highlighted by Charania have been associated with Durant at one point or another throughout his basketball career. A trade to the Rockets or the Spurs would bring Durant back to Texas, where he starred at the high school level. Similarly, a stint with the Knicks would mark a New York homecoming as KD had a much-hyped stint with the Brooklyn Nets from 2019 to 2023.

On the other hand, Minnesota and Miami were two teams that reportedly targeted Durant prior to the trade deadline. Given Charania's report, Durant to the Timberwolves or Durant to the Heat could still end up happening.

Former NBA champion picks Western Conference team as best fit for Kevin Durant

Prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, ESPN's "SportsCenter" was abuzz with the Durant trade talk. During the show, former NBA champion Iman Shumpert offered his take on the best fit for Durant next season.

"If we're talking about KD going for championships later in his career, I would like to see him go to the T'Wolves," Shumpert said. "I think that Anthony Edwards needs some help, and I think that he learns a whole lot from Kevin Durant." [Timestamp - 4:06]

Shumpert knows all about Durant setting his eyes on the prize, as the former Cleveland Cavaliers guard competed against a Durant-powered Warriors squad in 2017 and 2018. To Shumpert's point, a Durant and Edwards pairing could help the Timberwolves solidify their status as playoff contenders in the years to come.
