NBA insider details Mavericks’ 3 potential options amid Jason Kidd-Knicks mutual interest buzz

NBA insider Brian Windhorst detailed the three possible options that the Dallas Mavericks have amid the Jason Kidd departure rumors. In recent weeks, speculation has swirled about Kidd leaving the team to take the vacant New York Knicks head coaching job after Tom Thibodeau’s firing.

Although there has been no official confirmation on the same from Kidd or the Mavs, there still lingers a possibility for the speculations to turn into reality. On Monday, Windhorst appeared on ESPN’s Sports Center, where he listed out three possible outcomes.

“When the Knicks express interest the ball would be in the Mavericks’ court and they have three options as I see it,” Windhorst said.

Windhorst revealed that both Kidd and the Knicks have mutual interest in each other. He later went on to detail the Mavs' options and said that in the first outcome, the Mavs can outright deny the Knicks, as they still have Kidd under a contract.

In the second scenario, the ESPN analyst said that the Mavericks could discourage Kidd's interest in the Knicks by offering him a better contract. Alternatively, Dallas could negotiate a trade, potentially sending Kidd to the Eastern Conference team.

Windhorst referenced Jason Kidd's trade as a coach from the Brooklyn Nets to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2014, where the Nets received two second-round picks from the Bucks.

Mavericks insider fuels Jason Kidd to Knicks rumors with stunning claim

Mavericks insider Tim McMahon made a stunning claim about the possibility of the Dallas coach joining the New York Knicks during the offseason. On Thursday, DLLS Mavs' Kevin Gray Jr. uploaded a clip from a recent ESPN podcast featuring Tim McMahon on his X account.

In the video, McMahon was skeptical about Jason Kidd leaving the Mavs but confirmed that he has not been part of some big franchise decisions.

"What I can comfortably say is that there certainly have been decisions, major franchise decisions that have been that he was not on board with," MacMahon said on Thursday, via "The Hoop Collective." "One of which includes the firing of K.C. Smith, with whom J.Kidd has been extremely tight with since his second tenure as a player in Dallas."

The insider revealed that former Mavs trainer, K.C. Smith now leads the Knicks' health and performance group. Given his close ties with Kidd, there's a slight chance the rumors could materialize.

However, McMahon ended his statements assuring the fans that Kidd loves the Mavericks' crew and has confidence in the team becoming competitive next season.
