“Emotionally dehydrated, starving” – Coco Gauff reveals why partying after winning tournaments should be ‘illegal’

Coco Gauff hilariously noted that winners of a sporting event shouldn’t be allowed to step out after being handed a bottle of champagne. Gauff clinched her second Grand Slam title at the 2025 French Open, defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling three-setter.

Gauff was in her top form coming into the French Open, after losing the title to Jasmine Paolini in the Italian Open finals. The American No. 2 lost to the latter in straight sets 4-6, 2-6. In the Roland Garros semi-finals, Gauff outclassed French player Lois Boisson, who debuted in her Grand Slam in Paris. The former faced Sabalenka in the finals, and despite a wobbly start, she picked up pace and defeated the Belarusian in two sets.

As per ritual, Gauff was handed a celebratory champagne with the Slam trophy. Like all winners do, the 21-year-old went under the influence while being emotional and hilariously noted how players shoudn't be allowed to step out since they can go out bad.

"Going out after winning a sporting event should be illegal. You're emotional, dehydrated, starving, and then they put champagne in my hand... of course I'm going out bad. I had fun tho, we up"

In a previous Instagram story, Coco Gauff shared a video of herself letting loose as she danced to the beats of "Lost" by Frank Ocean in a red-lit room.

"For everyone asking how I celebrated, the room was spinning, Frank was playing, vibes were great," her caption read.

The Grand Slam champion was on the run for the Roland Garros title in the 2022 edition.

Coco Gauff has been vocal about her displeasure with the Presidential win of Donald Trump since it made the political scene in the US more tense. Addressing that, the two-time major winner expressed pride in representing her people on the global level and taking the Roland Garros win.

"Obviously there’s a lot going on in our country right now with things … like, everything, yeah. I’m sure you guys know. But just to be able to be a representation of that and a representation of, I guess, people that look like me in America who maybe don’t feel as supported during this time period … just being that reflection of hope and light for those people," said the 21-year-old said.
