Barack Obama, Caitlin Clark send their love to Coco Gauff after American’s incredible French Open title win

Gauff took on World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final on Saturday (July 7). After losing the opening set, she bounced back to win the clash in three sets, edging ahead 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 in a marathon battle at Roland Garros.

Minutes after her triumph, Obama congratulated the World No. 2 on social media, noting that her win had made all Americans across the globe proud.

“Congratulations to @CocoGauff for an amazing championship at the French Open — the first American singles champion at @RolandGarros in a decade. You make us all proud,” Obama wrote.

Gauff became the first American in a decade to win the title in Paris, following Serena Williams' 2015 win.

Catlin Clark, meanwhile, showed her love for Coco Gauff on Instagram, captioning a post of the 21-year-old's triumph with crown emojis.

After her French Open win, Coco Gauff has now won Slams on two of the three surfaces -- hardcourt and clay. Should she win Wimbledon, she would become one of the few players in history to have completed the Surface Slam -- winning a Slam on every surface.

The World No. 2 also remembered to thank her brothers, who were not in attendance at the stadium unlike her mother and father.

“I’d like to thank my parents. You guys have done a lot for me, from washing my clothes to keeping me grounded and giving me the belief that I can do it. You guys probably believe in me more than I do myself. To my brothers at home, you’re the reason I do this. You inspire me more than you know. To all my family at home, thank you," Coco Gauff said.

The next Grand Slam on the 21-year-old's calendar is Wimbledon, which is scheduled to start on grass at the end of this month.
