NBA Trade Rumors: Kevin Durant reportedly confident of joining Victor Wembanyama at San Antonio Spurs via blockbuster move

The trade rumors involving Kevin Durant and the San Antonio Spurs continue to heat up. Jake Weinbach reported on Wednesday that there was “mutual interest” between the Phoenix Suns superstar and the Silver and Black team. John Gambadoro, host of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, added to that speculation.

On Friday, in his latest radio talk, Gambadoro said:

“I do know somebody that has been with Kevin Durant recently and Kevin Durant talked about the Spurs and that’s why I mentioned the Spurs. I don’t wanna say who, but somebody that KD knows and trusts mentioned the Spurs.”

The Phoenix Suns wanted to trade Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors before the February trade deadline. KD said in the Draymond Green Show in March that he shut down those talks to keep his commitment to the Suns. Durant also wanted to see how far his team would go when healthy.

The Suns’ campaign ended without even a play-in tournament appearance after an ankle injury forced Durant to sit out crucial games late in the season.

Durant is in the final year of a four-year, $194.2 million contract extension signed in 2022. He becomes an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 campaign. After trying to trade KD in February, the Suns don’t want to lose him after next season without anything in return.

The San Antonio Spurs arguably have the best combination of assets and players to entice the Phoenix Suns to trade Durant. A combination of Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson and draft picks could grease the wheel of trade discussions. The trio of Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox and Durant would give the Spurs an enviable core that could end their six-year playoff drought.

Fans react to Kevin Durant’s reported confidence in joining the San Antonio Spurs

Kevin Durant is the second-hottest name on the rumor mill after two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has also been linked to the San Antonio Spurs. The recent report about KD confidently joining Victor Wembanyama’s team promptly earned reactions from fans.

The Suns have a long offseason to decide Durant’s future with the team. If they decide to trade him, they would unsurprisingly try to get the most out of any deal. San Antonio owns the No. 2 and No. 14 picks in the 2025 NBA draft, assets the Suns could look for in a Durant trade.

Only time will tell if KD gets a change of scenery and wears the Silver and Black uniform when the new season rolls in October.
